Edgar Kalns was a featured speaker at SLIF17.

Edgar Kalns, Ph.D., is leading SRI’s Studio on Aging, an institute-wide initiative to help seniors live independent and fulfilled lives, simultaneously addressing the rapidly increasing caregiver gap. The Studio’s goal is to create world-changing interdisciplinary solutions by fusing technologies and novel ideas from computer science, medicine, electronics, biology, psychology, robotics, nutrition, and others. Kalns also leads SRI’s cloud services platform efforts to accelerate the leap from research innovations to licensable software products.

Prior to joining SRI, Kalns was Head of Products & Engineering at [24]7, a company that enables intuitive and automated customer care experiences for Global 100 enterprises.

In addition to his position at SRI, Kalns is an advisor on the Strategic Partners Council in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University.

Kalns received Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in computer science from Michigan State University and a B.S. degree with honors from the University of Michigan. He holds two U.S. patents, with several pending.
