Verna Cavey

Senior Living Resident

Verna Cavey is a long-time resident of Clermont Park in Denver—a resident-directed senior living community where she has played a pivotal role in shaping the Citizenship Model. She’s spoken about this approach nationally and internationally, while also spearheading innovative programs that empower fellow residents, including the Imagination Lab, the Resident Scholarship Fund, and the Aging Affairs Working Group—a collaborative initiative where residents, team members, and leadership work together as true colleagues. Now 77, Verna says she’s having the time of her life.

Before retirement, Verna spent her career teaching and counseling college students, with a focus on supporting older adults returning to or starting higher education. Her academic background spans the social and behavioral sciences, lifelong learning, and conflict resolution. She studied at Johns Hopkins University and The Maxwell School at Syracuse University.
