Oct 27-28, 2020 – online

Embrace the great reset.

Senior housing is in the midst of a major transformation. This is a golden opportunity to affect real changes that will have a lasting impact on the future of this industry. Together, we can rewrite the chapters to come.

Join us for a two-day celebration of the future of senior housing + care and the innovators pioneering the difficult, yet necessary, transformation that’s unfolding.

Over the years, SLIF has become known for curating a special mix of relevant, provocative content, as well as creating collaborative environments that inspire connection among peers and industry partners. We may not be able to do that, in person… but we’ll do our damn best to bring senior housing leaders what they need, right now, in the best way possible.

Let’s face the uncertainty and disruption head-on, as a community, and reimagine the future of senior living.

Bob Kramer

Co-Founder - NIC

Bob Kramer is Founder and Strategic Advisor at the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC). He is also the President of Nexus Insights, an advisory firm that helps clients to redefine aging and rethink aging services. He is broadly recognized as one of senior living’s most influential and high profile thought leaders and connectors. With over 35 years of industry leadership, he has earned the reputation of “agent provocateur” in the seniors housing and care industry. Mr. Kramer has been described as an “ice-cutter” and scout in identifying industries and trends that will disrupt the future of seniors housing, aging services and aging more broadly.

In 1991, Mr. Kramer founded NIC to advance access and choice in seniors housing and care by attracting capital to grow the sector. Under his leadership, NIC became the go-to resource for data and analytics for the rapidly expanding seniors housing and care industry and an acknowledged thought leader for new ideas and trends impacting the provision of housing, services and care for older adults. He stepped out of the CEO role in 2017 and continues to serve NIC in the role of Strategic Advisor.

In 2019, Mr. Kramer conceived of and championed “The Forgotten Middle,” a landmark study of the health and socioeconomic status of middle-income adults who will be 75+ in 2029 and their ability to afford private pay senior housing and care. The report on the study, published in Health Affairs, was the 5th most read article appearing in this leading health policy monthly journal in 2019.

Mr. Kramer was educated at Harvard and Oxford Universities and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary.

With more than 30 years in the senior housing arena, he is an established leader nationally known for his creativity, innovation, and independent thinking in the development and management of standard setting senior living communities. Importantly, with a reputation for caring deeply for senior residents as well as the staff in Aegis Living communities by creating a culture of respect as a path to productivity, success, and satisfaction.

Dwayne was raised from humble beginnings by a single mom who gave him his greatest gift, the confidence that he could do anything. Those early years of Dwayne’s life led him to the tireless pursuit of running a company in a different way, with staff satisfaction being a driving force behind his success in creating an outstanding company serving seniors and supportive culture for employees.

Prior to forming Aegis Living, Dwayne was Executive Vice President of Sunrise Senior Living, and spent seven years with Leisure Care. When Dwayne started Aegis Living, his mission was to redefine an industry that had great potential but was failing in execution. He studied business models from companies known for world-class innovation, all based in Seattle: Costco, Nordstrom and Starbucks. With the knowledge gained from these companies, he grew Aegis Living from a dream to a company with over 2,000 staff members and seven projects currently under development in the Seattle area.

Dwayne operates from personal experience knowing what it’s like to care for an aging parent with dementia. He has chronicled stories about his mom, Colleen Clark, and her journey with Alzheimer’s in “My Mother, My Son” and “Saturdays with G.G.” His most recent book, “30 Summers More” was published September 2019.

Dwayne has been involved in many philanthropic ventures, including his own not-for-profit organizations, the Clark Family Foundation, D1 Foundation and the Potato Soup Foundation, which serves the needs of Aegis Living line staff and their families during times of crisis. He has also served on the boards of Seattle-based Rainier Scholars and the 5th Avenue Theatre, as well as the Young Presidents’ Organization, where he served as Chairman of the Northwest Chapter. Dwayne’s personal pursuits emphasizing civility, curiosity and creativity extend to filmmaking, writing books and plays which are detailed on his personal website www.dwaynejclark.com.

Dwayne is married to Terese, a former nurse who shares his interest in philanthropy. He has two successful children, Adam and Ashley, who both work for Aegis Living.

Kyle Rand

Co-Founder & CEO

Rendever

Kyle grew up volunteering in a senior living community and went on to study cognitive decline in the aging population. His neuroscience research was largely focused on the link between functional structural changes in the brain that happen as you age, and the associated deficits in economic-based decision making. He also studied neuroprosthetics and has been published for his work linking reward-based behavior coding with motor area activation in monkeys. Since joining the tech world, he has led the development of a niche research-based social network, created a crowdfunding platform for ecological conservation, and architected a grassroots initiative focused on increasing healthcare access in populations-in-need, which was eventually recognized by the Obama administration. After having a negative personal experience moving his grandmother into a senior living community, he realized the severe impact of social isolation on seniors, and cofounded Rendever to use new virtual reality technology to build communities and increase resident engagement through the power of shared experiences.
